Abstract
The following paper presents a succinct narrative of the evolution of the penalty of deprivation of freedom, taking into account its more representative history, the beginning of the prison and its further development. We analyze the correctional institution as part of the social construction called Penal Law, in order to consolidate a definition of it. To do this, we analyze various theoretical perspectives that have allowed us to structure with some clarity and precision the significance of this institution, its nature and rationale.References
