At Ciencia Jurídica, we work to ensure that all editorial decisions are made with absolute integrity, impartiality, and transparency. A conflict of interest arises when the personal, academic, economic, or institutional interests of any individual involved in the editorial process may influence—or reasonably appear to influence—their professional judgment. To maintain the trust of the scientific community, the journal identifies as potential conflicts of interest, among others, recent personal or professional relationships, close academic collaborations, economic interests related to the manuscript’s content, and situations of direct competition or institutional or ideological bias.
Each participant in the editorial process is required to disclose any situation that may compromise their objectivity:
Authors: They must report all actual or potential conflicts when submitting their manuscript, as well as any funding sources and circumstances that could influence the research or its evaluation.
Reviewers: They must refrain from evaluating a manuscript when a personal, professional, or economic relationship may affect their impartiality, while always maintaining strict confidentiality of the content.
Editors: They must recuse themselves when a conflict exists and ensure that each manuscript is evaluated by fully independent experts. All declarations must be submitted in writing using the journal’s official form.
The Technical Secretariat and the Editor review each case, assessing the nature of the conflict and its possible impact on the objectivity of the process. Depending on the severity, measures may include assigning alternative reviewers, appointing a different handling editor, or, in exceptional cases, rejecting the manuscript. If an undeclared conflict is detected, the journal may annul evaluations, exclude the individual from future editorial processes, or, in serious cases, initiate correction or retraction procedures.
Every published article includes a conflict of interest statement from the authors, along with information on funding and author contributions.
All declarations are handled with strict confidentiality.
In highly specialized fields where avoiding academic relationships is difficult, the journal may adopt additional measures, such as seeking international reviewers or requesting supplementary evaluations. This policy is reviewed annually in accordance with international best practices and the guidelines of COPE..
