In the context of the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the production of academic content, Ciencia Jurídica establishes the following policy to ensure integrity, transparency, and rigor in the generation and dissemination of scientific knowledge.
Ciencia Jurídica reaffirms that authorship must be attributed exclusively to academic researchers who have developed the research, thereby excluding the possibility of AI tools being considered co-authors. AI tools do not meet the essential criteria for authorship, such as the ability to assume ethical and legal responsibility for the generated content. Therefore, the journal does not permit prospective authors to rely exclusively on AI for the creation of their manuscripts. If an article is found to have been predominantly generated by AI, without substantial input from the author in terms of analysis, interpretation, and argumentation, it will be rejected prior to publication or retracted if already published—regardless of the time elapsed since its publication.
Authors are fully responsible for the verification, validation, and correction of any content generated with AI assistance, considering the risks of bias, misinformation, and the production of inconsistent data. Furthermore, AI use must adhere to the principles of scientific integrity and avoid any practice that undermines the originality of the work, infringes upon intellectual property rights, or results in the inappropriate manipulation of data.
While AI may serve as a methodological tool, it cannot replace critical analysis, academic reflection, or rigorous scholarly inquiry. Its use must be complementary and aimed at enhancing the clarity and quality of manuscripts without compromising the objectivity of the results. The use of AI to fabricate data, manipulate findings, or generate misleading content will be regarded as a serious breach of academic ethics, warranting immediate rejection of the manuscript or retraction of the publication.
The peer review process is a cornerstone of quality control and scholarly validation. Given the essential role of reviewers in editorial decision-making, the use of AI tools to evaluate manuscripts or draft peer-review reports is strictly prohibited. Reviewers must exercise their judgment independently, critically, and with academic and methodological rigor. Delegating this responsibility to AI compromises the editorial process and the credibility of Ciencia Jurídica. Therefore, any detection of AI use in this context may result in the reviewer’s exclusion from future evaluation processes.
Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in the rejection of the manuscript or, in the case of already published articles, the retraction of the publication by international standards of publication ethics.
