Anti-plagiarism Policy

No manuscript shall be published if its author engages in reprehensible conduct such as plagiarism, self-plagiarism, misattribution of authorship or sources. Accordingly, Ciencia Jurídica states the following:

As outlined in the section “Guidelines for Authors,” manuscripts published in Ciencia Jurídica must be original. Therefore, plagiarism—i.e., the reproduction of texts or the use of data already published, disseminated, or presented, or the partial reproduction of texts previously published by third parties without proper acknowledgment of their source—constitutes a serious ethical breach and is regarded as scientific misconduct. This also includes so-called self-plagiarism, or the reuse by the author of content already published by themselves without appropriate citation. The recycling of a text—that is, when a work already published in its entirety elsewhere is submitted again, without identifiable substantive differences between the two versions—is also considered a serious ethical violation.

Plagiarism can be complete, direct, partial, mosaic, or minimalist, depending on the degree of originality present in the manuscript submitted to the journal. Specifically, Ciencia Jurídica clarifies that it considers plagiarism to include situations in which the content of the submitted manuscript, or a relevant part of it, corresponds to material that has already been published, disseminated, or presented—even if it is worded differently—without clearly identifying the original source.

Ciencia Jurídica uses two methods to verify that submitted manuscripts are unpublished and that the proportion of recycled text complies with the limits established in the “Guidelines for Authors”:

  1. In the Publication Authorization Letter, the author certifies in writing that they have not submitted the same manuscript simultaneously to other journals or publishers for evaluation and/or publication.

  2. The Copyleaks software is used to determine the percentage of text matches with already published sources, as well as the use of AI-generated content without proper disclosure. Verification is carried out during the editorial process.

The falsification of information sources, references to non-existent sources, failure to verify or identify sources, are also considered violations of editorial ethics. All sources must be presented thoroughly, and Ciencia Jurídica reserves the right to verify their existence and the correspondence of citations with the referenced pagination during the editorial process.

The submission of a manuscript to the Editorial Committee of Ciencia Jurídica implies the exclusive and absolute commitment by the author not to submit it simultaneously—whether in whole or in part—to any other physical or digital publication during the journal’s review process. Authors are not permitted to withdraw their submission once it is under evaluation, except for serious and unforeseen circumstances, which must be duly communicated to the Editorial Board.

The detection of the unethical practices, or others of a similar nature, is the responsibility of the Editorial Committee and the Technical Secretariat of Ciencia Jurídica. Blind peer reviewers, in their capacity as subject-matter experts, may also raise concerns in this regard. Based on such findings, the Editorial Committee will inform the author of suspected misconduct, describing the nature of the behavior and the reasons why it has been classified as unethical. The author may submit a response or explanation, which the Editorial Committee will review before issuing sanctions or a final decision on the manuscript.

The Editorial Committee reserves the right to inform the editors of all publications involved in unethical practices of the details concerning who was involved, how, and under what circumstances misconduct was discovered.
